"the blank page, difficult mirror, gives back only what you were." ~ George Seferis
When I was rejected by The New School, I decided that exile would become my creative writing program. I think the words on a page are my attempt, however evanescent and ultimately futile, to overcome the erosion of time. They don't grow full and wane with every month or change color like the leaves of autumn, but somehow they let me know that I've made it through another month, another year, another city: Nashville, NYC, Oaxaca, Beijing, Riyadh, Madrid. My words always accompany me. They follow; they remember; they remain, like a trail to remind me that I once was there in that place at that time in my life.
